Saturday Summit Spotlight

Saturday started bright and early with our morning medication time, and you could feel the excitement buzzing through the dorms as the Summiteers prepared for what promised to be an incredible day. After a hearty breakfast that fueled everyone up for the adventures ahead, we gathered for something truly special - our Doctors Panel.

For two full hours, our campers had the chance to sit face-to-face with medical professionals, many from the MGH Turner syndrome clinic, who understand Turner syndrome inside and out. The questions came fast and furious - some serious, some curious, and some that made everyone giggle. It was beautiful to watch the campers lean forward in their chairs, hanging on every word, and see the lightbulb moments when complex medical concepts suddenly made sense. The doctors were patient, encouraging, and spoke directly to the campers as the strong advocates for their own health that they're becoming.

After refueling with lunch, the afternoon brought our rotation workshops, and wow, did the creativity flow! The campers split into three groups, rotating through poetry, ASL (American Sign Language), and storytelling workshops. In the poetry corner, verses about friendship, dreams, and summer adventures filled the air. The ASL workshop was a symphony of hands and smiles as new signs were learned and practiced with infectious enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the storytelling workshop had everyone captivated - the campers learned how to tell their stories and find confidence and poise in front of a crowd. We could hear laughter as each group discovered new ways to express themselves.

The after dinner dance party, a BITSS final night tradition, was absolutely electric. From the moment the music started at 6:15, there wasn't a single camper sitting down. We had everything from classic hits that had the counselors singing along to the latest pop songs that had the Summiteers teaching US the moves and practicing the dance moves they learned earlier in the week. Hair was flying, voices were singing at the top of lungs, and the joy was absolutely contagious. Even the shyest campers found themselves in the middle of the dance floor, swept up in the celebration of friendship and pure summer fun.

As we wound down with evening medications and settled into bed, you could see the happy exhaustion on every face. Whispered conversations and giggles drifted through the dorms as the kids shared their favorite moments from the day - was it learning that new ASL sign? Asking that important question during the doctor's panel? Or, maybe it was just that perfect moment during the dance party when everyone was singing together.
