If yesterday was magical, today was absolutely extraordinary! Your campers just experienced what we can only describe as a perfect Boston adventure – the kind of day that reminds us all why this city is such an incredible classroom.
We started our morning a bit later today (7:30 AM for morning routines), which gave everyone a chance to savor breakfast while buzzing with anticipation for our multi-stop Boston exploration. The excitement was palpable as we prepared for what would turn out to be one of our most memorable field trip days yet.
Our first stop was the Mapparium – watching your kids step inside that three-story stained glass globe was pure wonder in action. The sounds of amazement when they realized they were literally standing inside the world were absolutely priceless. The acoustics had them whispering to friends on the opposite side of the globe and giggling with delight at this architectural marvel. It's experiences like these that make geography come alive in ways no textbook ever could.
From there, we headed to the Prudential Tower's View Boston experience, where your campers got to see this city from an entirely new perspective. For two full hours, they explored interactive exhibits, marveled at the 360-degree views, and many of them spotted landmarks they'd visited in previous BITSS adventures. One camper exclaimed, "I can see the whole world from here!" – and honestly, that sense of possibility and wonder is exactly what we hope to nurture every single day.
By lunch time, we had worked up quite an appetite! Our combination lunch and ice cream break was the perfect midday treat. There's something about enjoying ice cream while reflecting on the morning's adventures that just captures the essence of summer camp perfectly. The laughter and animated conversations over lunch showed us just how much these experiences are resonating with your kids.
Our afternoon journey to the Museum of Fine Arts was an 18-minute walk that turned into its own adventure, with campers noticing architectural details, street art, and the rhythm of city life around them. Once we arrived at the MFA, something truly special happened during our tour and sketching session. For nearly three hours, your campers immersed themselves in art from around the world and across centuries.
What impressed us most wasn't just their curiosity about the artwork, but how they translated that inspiration into their own sketching. Watching them sit quietly in front of masterpieces, capturing their own interpretations on paper, reminded us that creativity is universal and timeless. Some chose to sketch the ancient artifacts, others were drawn to the impressionist paintings, and a few focused on architectural details of the museum itself. Each choice reflected their unique perspective and growing artistic confidence.
The train ride back to Emerson was filled with tired but happy faces, sketchbooks carefully protected, and stories being shared about favorite discoveries of the day. These are the moments when we see how travel and cultural experiences don't just broaden horizons – they help young people discover new parts of themselves.
This evening, we wrapped up our day with a Career Panel that we hope will stick with your campers for years to come. Hearing from adults with Turner syndrome who pursued careers in various fields – people who started as curious young learners just like them – gave your kids tangible examples of how education, passion, and opportunity can intersect in beautiful ways, and how people with TS can defy gravity throughout their lives and careers. The questions they asked were thoughtful and forward-thinking, showing how today's cultural immersion had already started them thinking about their own futures and possibilities.
Your campers settled in for a well-deserved rest after one of our most activity-packed days. They experienced art, science, geography, history, and career exploration all in one incredible Thursday. But more importantly, they did it all together, supporting each other's discoveries and celebrating each other's insights.
Days like today are why we believe so deeply in experiential learning. Your kids didn't just read about art or study maps – they stood inside the world, gazed out over their city, and created their own masterpieces inspired by centuries of human creativity. These experiences become part of who they are, shaping how they see themselves and their place in this big, beautiful world.
Thank you for trusting us to provide these transformative experiences for your amazing kids. Watching them grow more confident, curious, and connected with each passing day continues to be the greatest joy of our work.
Sweet dreams to all our world travelers and future artists!
Signing off with admiration and excitement for tomorrow!
