About BITSS
The Boston International Turner Syndrome Summit (BITSS) is a one-week immersive program for youth ages 12–19 with Turner syndrome. Participants come from across the United States and occasionally from Canada and beyond. Our staff includes many adults with Turner syndrome who serve as mentors and role models, creating a supportive, affirming community where participants can build confidence, friendships, and independence.
Position Summary
Each summer, BITSS has two onsite nurses and/or nurse practitioners. The BITSS Program nurses provide on-site medical support and health oversight for participants and staff throughout the one-week residential program. The nurse is responsible for medication management, basic health care, and triage of minor illnesses or injuries, while collaborating with camp leadership and families to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants. The nurse plays a key role in promoting participant well-being and supporting inclusion for youth with a range of medical and developmental needs
This is a primarily volunteer position with a small stipend provided at the conclusion of the program week.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee and administer medications according to physician orders and parental consent forms

Maintain secure storage and accurate documentation of all medications

Provide basic first aid and nursing care for minor illnesses and injuries

Assess health concerns and determine when escalation to urgent care or emergency services is needed

Support participants with medical needs related to Turner syndrome and co-occurring conditions as applicable

Communicate with camp directors and Medical Advisor regarding participant health concerns and care plans

Maintain health records and incident documentation in accordance with program policies

Educate and support staff on basic health, safety, and medical protocols

Promote a calm, reassuring environment when participants are unwell or anxious

Maintain participant confidentiality and professional boundaries

Perform additional duties as assigned by camp directors as program needs arise
Qualifications

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing (Massachusetts license preferred; compact license acceptable if applicable)

Experience working with children or adolescents preferred

Strong clinical judgment and ability to remain calm in urgent situations

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Comfortable working in a residential, camp-style environment

Familiarity with Turner syndrome or pediatric endocrinology is helpful but not required (training provided)

Physical & Program Requirements

Ability to be on call for health needs throughout the program day

Ability to be on your feet for extended periods and respond to urgent situations

Availability for the full duration of the one-week program

Successful completion of background check and required training

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to program start)
