7/27 - Summit Spotlight

Good Morning BITSS Friends and Families! We woke up excited to have our first full day together.

We started the day with a workshop on social-emotional health and understanding. We are dedicated to help nurture their confidence socially and create a space for them to talk about their emotional health and connect with others who have similar struggles and questions. We further deepened this bonding by going into our Summit Speaks, where each mentor group met with some guided questions to talk about their diagnosis story, introduce themselves and dive deeper into their choice of topics from a list we gave them covering school, social and various related topics to their age and Turner Syndrome.

We then had lunch before diving into our first sets of rotations. We are very lucky to have skilled instructors leading the participants in ASL, Poetry and Theatre. They all jumped right into it and we were very impressed with their skills in all areas. ASL is important to the participants and a favorite each year. This is due to the hearing impairment that can come with TS and some participants having a background in this that they love sharing with their peers in the class, especially those returning participants that keep practicing after camp! Poetry and Theatre gave the chance for our artistic participants to shine and all participants were able to share their poems if they wanted and support each other’s work.

After dinner, the theme of expression continued as we had our karaoke night. There are a lot of great voices and big personalities we were excited to see and get to share in! The whole campus could hear our fun and singing along!

It was then time for our usual Meds and Beds routine and a well earned night of sleep!

Talk to you Tomorrow,

The BITSS Team
