After a good night's rest, our Summiteers started their day bright and early with morning meds and a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the exciting day ahead. Unfortunately our plans changed and we had to cancel our beach outing due to rain and chilly weather. We already had a bus booked so we climbed aboard but didn’t tell the campers our destination. This ensured their day was not dreary but filled with an exciting new adventure!
When we pulled into the parking lot of a shopping mall, there were loud cheers! They shopped till they dropped, yet still managed to sing the entire bus ride home! We were sad to miss beach day, but the campers had a chance to make tough choices about how to use their spending money, chat with one another for opinions and laughter, and share their interests with the Mentors and other staff.
The evening brought us back to Emerson for cleanup time and then split into our age-appropriate evening activities. Our younger Summiteers settled in for movie night (Wicked!) with dinner intermission – the perfect way to wind down from such an active day. Meanwhile, our 18 and 19 year olds embarked on their special night out adventure at the ice cream museum, creating memories and bonds that will last well beyond camp.
As always, we ended the day with evening meds and bedtime routines, with heads full of memories and hearts full of new friendships. These BITSS superstars continue to show us every day what it means to embrace life with courage, joy, and an adventurous spirit!
